About the role
The Community Livelihood Officer is a field-based role responsible for developing reef-positive livelihoods for coastal communities in the Pemba intervention area. This position works across essential value chains such as seaweed farming and small-scale octopus fishing to increase household incomes and foster community ownership of marine protected areas.
Responsibilities
- Daily engagement with producer groups
- Cooking technical assistance
- Building sustainable downstream chains from aggregation to final sales
- Spend significant time in the field, including travel to remote farming villages, landing sites, and occasional trips to Dar es Salaam
- Facilitate financial inclusion by establishing savings and lending groups (VSLA/VICOBA) and providing business management training
- Manage logistics
- Enforce quality and food safety standards
- Act as a bridge between local producers and broader market opportunities
- Ensure that all operations align with Earth Alliance's commitment to regenerating the ocean at scale
Requirements
The ideal candidate must be willing to spend significant time in the field, including travel to remote farming villages, landing sites, and occasional trips to Dar es Salaam. They should have a blend of community facilitation, commercial acumen, and strict financial integrity.
