About the Role
Provides daily living support and assistance to individuals in one of the agency’s Community Integrated Living Arrangements under the supervision of the CILA Team Leader and with the support of the Supported Living Program Manager.
Responsibilities
- Provide training and guidance to residents in Community Integrated Living Arrangement (CILA) in the areas of activities of daily living (e.g., hygiene), community integration (e.g., outings), and economic self-sufficiency skills (e.g., accurate recording of financial transactions).
- Provide direct personal care or oversight as needed.
- Deliver excellent customer service to residents and families and maintain positive relationships and lines of communication.
- Ensure resident medication needs are met by monitoring and documenting medication regimen; report any health issues to the supervisor.
- Work with and participate in the community to assist residents in utilizing resources and developing natural supports, including providing client transportation.
- Complete all required documentation.
- Prepare and/or utilize basic household necessities such as food, program supplies, and cleaning supplies; maintain the overall appearance of the home, including daily housekeeping tasks.
- Follow and maintain all safety procedures and participate in safety drills.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Experience working in a residential setting with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and valid auto insurance.
- Must pass the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) with an eighty percent or higher.
Skills
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write routine reports and simple correspondence.
- Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to residents and other employees.
- Basic mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance; ability to compute percentages.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to develop effective and efficient communication skills through instruction and training, adapt favorably to changing program needs, and demonstrate genuine interest in the welfare of clients.
- Ability to develop knowledge of behavior principles through instruction and training.
- Ability to learn basic computer operations for client data tracking, incident reporting, and other necessary processes.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
- Occasionally required to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, reach above shoulder level, crouch, kneel, balance, and push/pull.
- Continuously required to lift up to 10 lbs.
- Occasionally required to lift between 11 lbs – 50 lbs.
- Must use left and right hand for repetitive actions such as simple grasping, firm grasping, and fine manipulating.
- Must be able to drive the agency’s van.
- Must be able to provide assistance to individuals as needed, such as maneuvering wheelchairs or assisting clients in ambulating and transferring.
- Must be able to stay awake during the employee’s work shift.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
