Community Health Aide Trainee
The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation seeks a Community Health Aide/Practitioner to provide primary (acute, chronic and preventive) health care and emergency care to residents in rural villages across southwest Alaska. This position requires a resident of the village or willingness to relocate, ability to communicate in English and local languages, and willingness to travel for training.
About the Role
This role functions similarly to other Community Health Aides/Practitioners but also includes itinerant coverage to other YKHC villages. Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.
- Must demonstrate ability to read, write, and perform math at the 8th grade level.
- Must be willing and able to travel to Bethel and other training sites.
- Must be certified ETT or EMT.
- Must attend Health Aide Sessions I, II, III, IV to become a certified CHP.
- Able to provide year-round coverage including summers.
- Able to provide itinerant coverage to other YKHC villages as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be a resident of the village or agree to relocate.
- Must be willing and able to communicate in English and prefer the ability to speak the local language.
- Must be willing and able to provide itinerant (“float”) coverage to other YKHC villages.
Skills
- Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Pay and Schedule
Full-time position with a minimum hourly pay of $23.73, accruing 4.5 weeks of PTO per year.
