Community Health Aide Trainee

About the role

The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation (YKHC) seeks a Community Health Aide/Practitioner (CHA/P) to provide primary (acute, chronic and preventive) health care and emergency care to those seeking health services at the village clinic. This position requires residency in the village or willingness to relocate, proficiency in English and local languages, and the ability to travel to Bethel and other training sites.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary health care and emergency care to patients in remote villages.
• Communicate effectively in English and local languages.
• Travel to Bethel and other training sites for basic and required trainings.
• Participate in preventative and chronic care activities as appropriate to level of training.
• Able to provide year-round coverage, including summers.
• Willing and able to provide itinerant (“float”) coverage to other YKHC villages as assigned.
• Function in the same capacity as all other CHA/Ps, serving villages on an itinerant basis as determined by the Field Supervision Coordinator.

Requirements

• Resident of the village or willing to relocate for service.
• Ability to communicate in English and prefer the ability to speak the local language.
• Willing and able to travel to Bethel and other training sites.
• Agree to abide by CHAP policies and procedures.
• Able to provide year-round coverage including summers.
• Willing and able to provide itinerant (“float”) coverage to other YKHC villages as assigned.
• Full Time Float CHA/Ps will function in the same capacity as all other CHA/Ps.
• Be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or completion of GED preferred.
• Demonstrate ability to read, write, and perform math at the 8th grade level.
• Positive work history.
• Nominated by Traditional or IRA Council of the village.
• Attend Health Aide Sessions I, II, III, IV to become a certified CHP.
• Certified ETT or EMT.
• Experience with Microsoft Word and email.
• Proficient with RPMS and Telehealth within 3 months of hire.
• Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
• Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Write simple correspondence.
• Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
• May be tasked to be a Lead Health Aide.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or completion of GED preferred.

Pay

Minimum Hourly Pay: $23.73

Schedule

Full Time Float CHA/Ps will function in the same capacity as all other CHA/Ps. The exception being they will serve villages on an itinerant basis as determined by the Field Supervision Coordinator.
