Community Health Aide Trainee

About the Role

Provides primary (acute, chronic, and preventive) health care and emergency care to those seeking health services at the village clinic. This position may also require providing itinerant (“float”) coverage to other YKHC villages as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Deliver primary and emergency health care in a village clinic setting.
• Participate in preventative and chronic care activities as appropriate to level of training.
• Provide year-round coverage, including summers.
• Serve as itinerant coverage to other YKHC villages as determined by the Field Supervision Coordinator.
• Abide by CHAP policies and procedures while in training and in the village.
• Attend required training sessions in Bethel or other designated sites.
• May be tasked to be a Lead Health Aide.

Requirements

• Must be a resident of the village or agree to relocate to a village for the purpose of serving as a Community Health Aide/Practitioner.
• Ability to communicate in English; preference given to those who speak the local village language.
• Willing and able to travel to Bethel and/or other training sites for required trainings.
• Must attend Health Aide Sessions I, II, III, IV to become a certified CHP.
• Must be certified ETT or EMT. If rehired, must meet YKHC re-entry guidelines.
• Proficiency with RPMS and Telehealth within 3 months of hire.
• Experience with Microsoft Word and email.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Demonstrated ability to read, write, and perform math at the 8th-grade level (as determined by the Test of Adult Basic Education, TABE).
• Positive work history.
• Must be nominated by the Traditional or IRA Council of the village where service will be provided.

Skills

• Mathematical skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
• Language skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

Pay

Minimum hourly pay: $23.73.

Schedule

• Full-time (80 hours per week).
• Temporary position.
