Community Engagement Coordinator

Maryland Nonprofits · Baltimore, MD · Yesterday
Full-time

About the role

Since 1976, the Greater Mondawmin Coordinating Council (GMCC) has served as an umbrella organization for the community associations in the Greater Mondawmin area. GMCC has provided support to its affiliated community associations and brings their combined voice to government agencies, nonprofits, and other stakeholders. In 2023, GMCC received funding to bring on a full-time professional staff to support the ongoing efforts of community leaders and volunteers amidst large scale renewed investment in our area.

GMCC mobilizes residents and leads programs to create equitable neighborhood change and strengthen community leadership. We envision Greater Mondawmin as a rooted community where all generations thrive, with active neighborhood associations, connected residents, strong institutions, and programs that respond to community-identified needs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Affiliate & Resident Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for GMCC’s eight affiliated neighborhood associations. Attend regular affiliate meetings, assist resident leaders with volunteer recruitment, and deploy targeted outreach strategies to engage renters, homeowners, youth, older adults, and local families.
  • Assembly & Event Execution: Lead the monthly planning, logistics, and facilitation for the Greater Mondawmin Assembly. Coordinate guest speakers, track resident feedback, and handle meeting logistics.
  • Field Outreach & Presence: Staff community tabling, canvassing campaigns, neighborhood cleanups, greening events, and local school activities to build trust and gather community input on neighborhood priorities.
  • Program & Asset Promotion: Maintain basic, direct communications—including flyers, social media updates, and newsletter blurbs—to keep residents informed about GMCC meetings, partner resources, and neighborhood achievements.
  • Engagement Tracking: Maintain organized contact lists, survey data, and outreach logs using Microsoft Office/Excel to track resident participation and measure engagement outcomes over time.

  • 1–3 years of experience in community organizing, volunteer management, or neighborhood-level outreach.
  • Experience planning and facilitating community meetings or public events.

  • Practical familiarity with basic digital tools, including spreadsheets, social media platforms, and mass email tools.
  • Strong connection to or deep familiarity with the Greater Mondawmin community and a commitment to resident-led neighborhood change.
  • Ability to work a flexible afternoon/evening schedule, including recurring weekend events.
