Community Employment Specialist
About the role
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) seeks to develop a premier workforce that supports Indiana's economic growth. This role involves assisting job seekers and businesses through various services.
Responsibilities
- Gather information from applicants and evaluate their qualifications and employment barriers.
- Aid clients in job searching and resume building.
- Review assessments, client backgrounds, and vocational interests to recommend and work with partner programs.
- Administer assessment instruments and interpret aptitude results.
- Communicate services available from other public assistance agencies and make referrals.
- Explain employment opportunities and refer clients to specialized programs if needed.
- Utilize data tracking systems to document all services provided.
- Support job/hiring fairs or events for talent recruitment.
- Provide technical assistance for customers using automated systems including Indiana Career Connect programs.
- Present education materials to groups and individuals.
Requirements
- Minimum 1+ years of experience in customer service.
- Advanced research skills and proficiency in internet-based resources.
- Ability to communicate professionally and interact with different stakeholders.
- Experience managing relationships and motivating customers.
- Knowledge of State’s current client services program system.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain attention to detail.
- Experience adapting to policy changes.
Qualifications
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, though a degree is not mandatory. Candidates must demonstrate the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.
Skills
Understanding of different funding sources, advanced research skills, communication, relationship management, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications are essential.
