Community Educator- Part Time

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adapt and deliver scientific-based educational programs tailored to the needs of the community
• Facilitate hands-on workshops, seminars, and other programs in community-based organizations, specifically in underrepresented communities
• Adapt current education programs and additional Project Athena offerings into programs for a community audience as needed
• Collaborate with scientists and curators to translate current research and collections into accessible programming for the public
• In collaboration with the larger programming team, build and establish partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and government agencies to collaborate on community education initiatives
• Advocate for community needs and concerns by representing the community in discussions with Museum personnel and other relevant stakeholders
• Evaluate the effectiveness of community education programs through surveys, feedback forms, and direct conversations with community members
• Identify and attend relevant events in Northeast Ohio to increase the Museum’s visibility and build trust with underserved and underrepresented communities

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Community Development, Non-Profit Management, or a related field and 2-3 years of related experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Valid driver's license required
• Proficient in Spanish preferred

• Excellent communication skills, specifically when engaging with audiences who are diverse in culture, age, race, abilities, and socioeconomic backgrounds
• Prowess in developing curriculum tailored to specific community needs
• Proven ability to work effectively with time constraints and strict deadlines
• Willingness to travel to different locations across Northeast Ohio to deliver educational programs
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and listening skills

Working Conditions

• This position includes sitting, walking, standing, or working on a computer for prolonged periods of time
• May be required to lift up to 25lbs
• This is a part-time hourly position
