Community Canvassers

About the role

The Defend our Home Community Canvassers will have phone conversations with B.C. residents in key geographies across BC. These deep conversations focus on helping residents connect the impacts of current forestry management practices to their own personal lives and consider how prioritizing biodiversity and ecosystem health might support a new balance.

Responsibilities

• Have deep canvass conversations while phone canvassing using an online platform and logging accurate data for at least four hours of each shift.
• Participate in regular skills training and coaching to improve conversation skills.
• Accurately record data and contribute to debriefs to better inform our efforts, and be able to pivot as necessary based on what we are seeing to be most effective.
• Participate in leadership development and anti-oppression trainings, as required.
• Meet regularly with the BC Campaigns Manager, individually and as a whole canvass team.
• Other responsibilities, as assigned by BC Campaigns Manager

Requirements

• Strong listening skills, and the ability to talk nonjudgmentally/neutrally with individuals that hold a wide range of viewpoints.
• Proven strong interpersonal, conflict resolution and communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment and passion to environmental justice and its intersections.
• Ability to work with diverse people.
• Ability to be emotionally resilient during work hours.
• Able to work in a team, and ability to be motivated to work on your own.

Qualifications

• Fluency in English is required.
• Experience using databases and doing data entry.

Skills

• Experience using calling software.
• Experience in community organizing, campaigning, or canvassing.
• Experience with social work, crisis support, or trauma-informed care.

Employment benefits include: 5 paid sick days, vacation pay, paid out at 4% of base pay in each payroll cycle, technology hardware provided, and paid Statutory holidays (for staff that have worked 15 of the previous 30 days, includes Boxing Day and additional consideration for days of cultural or religious significance).

Pay

$27.85 per hour

Part time – 15hrs/week
