About the role

The Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis serves Harris County, managing four precincts including Precinct One, which covers 363 square miles with a diverse population. The office focuses on advancing equitable public service, economic justice, and community empowerment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with constituents and organizations in assigned region through strategic outreach.
  • Produce timely and well-researched written reports to ensure community needs are integrated into Precinct decisions.
  • Create and execute regional direct action plans to enhance civic engagement and empower communities.
  • Communicate community needs to Regional Managers through weekly reports, proposals, and memos.
  • Serve as a community relations liaison, representing the office at community events and presenting certificates and resolutions.
  • Participate on project teams to execute short-term and long-term community engagement projects.
  • Develop an understanding of policy priorities and communicate effectively about policy issues affecting Precinct One's community.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • One to three years of experience in addressing constituent concerns or community engagement/outreach.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of community engagement methods and ability to initiate conversations with stakeholders.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and develop recommendations based on social and racial justice.
  • Ability to write concisely and evaluate trends to suggest improvements for community-related programs.

Bilingual in English and Spanish.

General Information

  • Hours: Full-time | Regular Monday - Friday | Evening and weekends may be required.
  • Work Environment: Standard office work with occasional travel within Harris County.
  • Location: 2787 El Camino Street, Houston, TX 77054.
  • Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
