About Sentala

Sentala is a nonprofit organization developing conservation-monitoring technology to help protect threatened wildlife, ecosystems, and the people who defend them. Working closely with rangers, conservation organizations, governments, technology companies, researchers, and funders, Sentala builds practical tools that improve visibility, coordination, and decision-making in the field. Partnership is central to Sentala’s work. We believe lasting conservation outcomes depend on strong relationships, local expertise, and thoughtful collaboration across sectors and cultures.

About the Role

Sentala is seeking a creative, highly organized, and globally minded Communications Specialist to strengthen our external communications, support strategic partnerships, and bring our mission to life through compelling visual and digital content. This is a hands-on role for someone equally comfortable designing a senior-level PowerPoint presentation, editing a field video, creating social media content, drafting partner materials, and working with colleagues in unfamiliar cultural or field environments.

The Communications Specialist will work across Sentala’s leadership, technical teams, field colleagues, and external partners to translate complex conservation and technology topics into clear, credible, and engaging communications.

Responsibilities

Partnerships and Stakeholder Communications

  • Develop presentations, briefing materials, proposals, talking points, and follow-up communications for partners, funders, governments, conservation organizations, and technology collaborators.
  • Support partner meetings, field visits, conferences, demonstrations, announcements, and joint communications.
  • Build strong working relationships with external partners and understand their priorities, sensitivities, and communications protocols.
  • Exercise discretion when communicating about governments, conservation security, field operations, technology, or other sensitive subjects.

Design and Multimedia Production

  • Create polished, visually compelling PowerPoint presentations for leadership, partners, funders, conferences, and external audiences.
  • Turn technical information, field data, and strategic concepts into clear visual stories, diagrams, infographics, and presentation materials.
  • Produce and edit video content, including interviews, field stories, technology demonstrations, partner features, and social media videos.
  • Edit audio for interviews, presentations, voiceovers, podcasts, and digital content.
  • Support filming, storyboarding, interview preparation, captioning, subtitling, and asset selection.
  • Maintain Sentala’s presentation templates, visual identity, multimedia library, and design standards.
  • Repurpose content efficiently across presentations, social media, websites, newsletters, and partner communications.

Social Media and Digital Communications

  • Help manage Sentala’s social media channels, including editorial planning, content creation, publishing, community engagement, and performance reporting.
  • Develop an integrated content calendar aligned with partnership milestones, field activities, organizational priorities, and relevant conservation moments.
  • Write engaging copy and create platform-appropriate graphics, videos, animations, and audio content.
  • Monitor digital conversations, partner activity, emerging issues, and reputational considerations.
  • Use analytics to improve content quality, reach, and audience engagement.
  • Support website updates, newsletters, campaigns, and other external communications.

International and Field Communications

  • Travel internationally to support field programs, partner engagements, events, content production, and organizational priorities.
  • Work respectfully and effectively with people from different countries, cultures, professions, and lived experiences.

Qualifications

  • Two to five years of experience in communications, design, public affairs, partnerships, marketing, journalism, multimedia production, or a related field.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Advanced PowerPoint skills and a strong portfolio of presentation design.
  • Strong visual-design judgment, including typography, layout, information design, image selection, and brand consistency.
  • Practical video-editing experience using Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or comparable software.
  • Experience with design tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Figma, or similar platforms.
  • Experience creating and managing social media content for an organization, campaign, or public-facing initiative.
