About the role
The Communications Specialist plays a vital role in advancing Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's brand and reputation through strategic, engaging communications. This position collaborates with stakeholders across the University to develop compelling content, support media relations, manage internal communications, and promote institutional priorities across a variety of platforms.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic communications plans to support University initiatives and goals.
- Create and maintain high-quality content for various communication channels, including websites, social media, press releases, and newsletters.
- Support media relations efforts, including responding to inquiries, preparing materials for journalists, and managing media outreach campaigns.
- Manage internal communications, including email newsletters, intranet updates, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all University communications.
- Stay informed about current communications trends, tools, and best practices to enhance the effectiveness of University communications.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience writing, editing, and creating content across multiple communication platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting media relations and developing strategic communications.
- Familiarity with graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience working in higher education or another complex, mission-driven organization.

- Exceptional written, verbal, and editing skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with content management systems and social media platforms.
- Ability to translate technical or complex information into clear, audience-focused messaging.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to brand consistency.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
