About the role
This position serves as a Communications Officer within the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, responsible for receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls, coordinating law enforcement and emergency response activities, and maintaining accurate records of all communications.
Responsibilities
- Answer and prioritize incoming emergency (911) and non-emergency calls.
- Dispatch appropriate law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other emergency personnel.
- Operate and monitor multiple communication systems, including radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD).
- Maintain detailed and accurate logs of all calls, dispatches, and actions taken.
- Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers in emergency situations.
- Coordinate with other agencies and jurisdictions as needed.
- Perform data entry and generate reports related to communications activities.
- Ensure compliance with all departmental policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Previous experience in emergency communications, dispatch, or a related field preferred but not required.
- Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced, high-stress environments.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and ability to learn new software quickly.
- Must pass a background check, including criminal history and fingerprinting.
- Must successfully complete a training program and obtain relevant certifications (e.g., EMD, CPR) within a specified timeframe.
