Communications Manager , Policy Comms & External Affairs
About the role
Amazon is seeking a self-motivated and high-judgment communications professional to join its Policy Communications and External Affairs team. The team is at the forefront of shaping communications around the most advanced technologies on the planet, helping to advocate for policies that enable customer innovation and demonstrating the positive impact that our investments bring to the places where we operate.
This role will drive communications efforts at the national level and in our data center regions across the US, helping raise awareness among key media, third-party partners, and local policy stakeholders about Amazon's policy priorities, advocacy initiatives, and positive impact on customers, industries, and communities.
This position is based in Seattle, WA, Arlington, VA or New York, NY and will require periodic travel.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with Amazon's Infrastructure, Public Policy and Economic Development teams to drive awareness of Amazon's national, state and local advocacy objectives and positive impact on customers, industries, and the communities where we operate
- Develop communications plans, written content, and other communications assets in support of Amazon's policy and investment objectives
- Support a broad range of external communications programs and events aligned with Amazon's policy objectives, including executive communications
- Establish and foster national, state, local, and regional media relationships by serving as a trusted source and educator about Amazon
- Provide communications counsel to business leaders
- Work cross-functionally to plan and execute Communications campaigns
Basic Qualifications
- 7+ years of recent professional communications or public relations experience
- Bachelor's degree
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in professional communications or public relations
Skills
- Strong media relations and strategic communications experience, especially securing agenda-setting stories with Tier 1 national media
- Ability to translate complex technology concepts into clear, compelling narratives
- Background in supporting public policy initiatives
- Experience developing and managing wholistic communications programs for senior executives, including media interviews, social media engagement, public speaking opportunities and more
- Proven track record of working effectively internally across complex, cross-functional teams and externally with policymakers, businesses and suppliers, in a fast-paced environment while delivering impactful results
- Passion for technology and its role in transforming industries and communities
- Experience executing integrated public affairs campaigns across earned, paid, and social media channels
- Excellent writing and storytelling skills
- Sound judgment under pressure
- Ability to engage both policy and business audiences
Pay
- USA, NY, New York: $139,400.00 - $188,500.00 USD annually
- USA, VA, Arlington: $126,700.00 - $171,400.00 USD annually
- USA, WA, Seattle: $126,700.00 - $171,400.00 USD annually
