The role of the Communications Coordinator is part of the Marketing Department. This position serves as the primary writer and communications producer for Simpson University.

Responsibilities

  • Write blog posts for the university website, including student and alumni stories, program highlights, and campus news.
  • Write and distribute press releases on behalf of the university.
  • Write and produce the quarterly Life Together publication recapping the previous quarter for the Simpson University community.
  • Aid in writing speeches, talking points, and remarks for university leadership, including the President.
  • Aid in overall university messaging and institutional communications.
  • Work with local media to secure interviews and media coverage for the university.
  • Develop written content for marketing campaigns, website pages, and institutional communications.
  • Cook up email and SMS marketing campaigns and institutional announcements.
  • Develop content and creative assets for student communication flows across the full enrollment funnel (inquiry, applicant, admitted, and enrolled stages), working in partnership with the Admissions team.
  • Create graphic design for marketing materials, social media, and advertising.
  • Capture photography of campus life, events, and athletics for use across marketing channels, the website, and institutional communications.
  • Produce short-form video content for social media, including campus clips, event highlights, and student testimonials.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field preferred).
  • 1–2 years of experience in communications, marketing, or content writing.
  • Recent graduates with strong writing portfolios and internship experience will be considered.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills across multiple formats (blog, press release, web copy, email, publication).
  • Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or CRM-integrated tools).
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or equivalent design tools.
  • Photography skills with experience shooting events, portraits, and campus environments.
  • Video production skills, including filming and editing short-form social media content.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, precise, focused, and accurate.
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects at one time.
  • Must work well independently and with others.
