About the role

The role involves all communication at the mine as directed by the Chief Operating Officer (CO) and includes tracking responsibilities. Key accountabilities include communication regarding the movement and location of all underground personnel, maintaining MSHA-required record-keeping and emergency response plan notifications, managing site security cameras, overseeing communication equipment and systems, and ensuring the communication room is staffed at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Communication pertaining to the movement and location of all persons underground
  • Tracking responsibilities as per CO directives
  • Maintaining MSHA-required record-keeping and emergency response plan notifications
  • Managing site security cameras
  • Overseeing communication equipment and systems
  • Ensuring the communication room is staffed at all times

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Technical degree preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of MSHA communication regulations
  • Ability to assign and reprogram tracking tags and phones for miners
  • Knowledge of radio/phone communication, dispatch equipment, and broadcasting procedures
  • Ability to speak clearly under stress
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships in high-stress situations
  • Strong decision-making skills in emergencies
  • Familiarity with ERP responsibilities
  • Able to maintain accurate records and an organized workspace
  • Able to maintain/calibrate devices and equipment
  • Must be able to go underground occasionally for equipment tasks
  • Familiarity with mine Emergency Response Plan
  • Experience with SuccessFactors, SAP, and Kronos is a plus
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills

Qualifications

  • Physical Demands and Work Environment: Standing on uneven surfaces for long periods, sitting up to 4 hours, walking up to 4 hours, bending/stooping for full work periods, climbing stairs, equipment, and ladders, frequent lifting of 25–50 lbs, occasional lifting up to 80 lbs, exposure to extreme conditions, noise levels, and confined spaces
  • Required PPE use
  • Must work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Safety Sensitive Role Requirements: No uncontrolled conditions that interfere with operating machinery, no uncontrolled respiratory or cardiac dysfunction, no severe uncontrolled high blood pressure, no unregulated mental/psychiatric disorder impacting safety, must meet minimum vision and hearing requirements
