About the role

Mesa Community College (MCC) is seeking a full-time Communication Residential Faculty member to begin January 2027. This position will instruct and evaluate students with diverse backgrounds in introductory communication courses in traditional, hybrid, and online formats. The role requires a physical presence on campus to best serve students, department, and college, with possible partial remote work depending on business needs.

Responsibilities

• Instruct students of various ages and diverse backgrounds in classroom and online settings, covering topics such as human communication, interpersonal communication, public speaking, small group communication, intercultural communication, and introductory communication theory.
• Provide instruction using verbal, written, audio/visual, computer-based multimedia, and learning management systems like Canvas.
• Guide and support students in co-curricular settings, such as student organizations or clubs.
• Evaluate student performance, prepare and administer exams, track scholastic records, and calculate final grades.
• Design and develop curricula and instructional materials, remaining current with developments in the field through Faculty Professional Growth (FPG).
• Participate in department, college, and district planning and development, including serving on related committees.
• Maintain academic support hours to assist and advise students, promoting learning and personal development.
• Work with students outside the classroom on instructional activities and projects, such as clubs, undergraduate research, and internships with business and industry.
• Develop and cultivate connections to support department presence on campus.
• Stay current with new trends and developments in the field through technology, research, conferences, courses, seminars, workshops, and FPG opportunities.

Requirements

• A graduate degree is required. Candidates may qualify with either:
  • A Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field (Communication), or
  • A Master’s degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours in Communication.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. preferably in Communication.
• Full-time college teaching experience (or equivalent part-time experience) in in-person Communication courses, preferably at the community college level.
• Experience teaching distinct communication courses, such as:
  • Introduction to Human Communication
  • Interpersonal Communication
  • Public Speaking
  • Small Group Communication
  • Intercultural Communication
  • Business/Organizational Communication
  • Introductory Communication Theory & Research
• Experience teaching in alternative modalities (e.g., online, hybrid).
• Demonstrated experience in evaluating curriculum and assessing student learning outcomes, including creating or revising curricula, using assessment tools, and analyzing data to improve teaching effectiveness.
• Experience using inclusive teaching techniques to support various student populations (e.g., active learning, learning communities, culturally responsive pedagogy, differentiated instruction).
• Experience applying Communication principles through community/student engagement activities (e.g., Service Learning, Toastmasters, public speaking events) and participation in institutional initiatives or committees.

Special Working Conditions

• Travel to campus during the interview/selection process is at the candidate's own expense.

• May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs.

Pay

$52,809.48 - $101,665.34 annually, depending on experience.

Schedule

• 30 hours per week.
• 9-month work calendar.
