About the role

Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) is seeking an instructor who will develop curriculum and teach Communication courses to a diverse student body in accordance with the college’s learning-centered philosophy. The One-Year-Only (OYO) instructor will use multiple methods of instruction, assessment strategies, and appropriate technology to engage students in learning and promote student success. The instructor may teach classes in multiple delivery formats, including in-person, hybrid, and online, and may teach daytime or evening classes at the Union Hills campus.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches a diverse population of students including students in high school programs, using in-person, hybrid, accelerated, and online formats, using learning-centered strategies to engage students.
  • Demonstrates innovation in teaching and learning and scholarship of learning by focusing on student success, retention, and completion.
  • Incorporates instructional technology and alternative delivery or scheduling techniques.
  • Develops instructional materials and curriculum, including syllabi, course outlines, and course materials.
  • Affirms and evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students’ scholastic records.
  • Prepares and grades examinations and other learning activities, participates in division and college assessment and program review processes.
  • Uses assessment and evaluation results to improve instruction and student learning.
  • Maintains office hours to assist and advise students to promote learning and personal development.
  • Works with students outside of the classroom on instructional activities and projects such as clubs, undergraduate research, and internships with business and industry.
  • Develops and cultivates relationships with high school and university institutions to develop and promote transfer pathways for students.
  • Remains current with new trends and developments in the field through technology, research, reading/studying the literature, attendance at conferences, courses, seminars and/or workshops; develops and enhances knowledge of teaching and learning.
  • Participates in college and district activities, including department/division meetings, committees, workshops, and projects.
  • Works with the faculty team to evaluate and select classroom materials; may participate in designing customized curriculum, materials, and activities.
  • Contributes to the academic life and mission of the college.
  • Demonstrates intercultural competence in interactions with students, staff, and the community.
  • Maintains a collegial team approach in collaborating with students, faculty, staff, and the community.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field. Disciplines meeting the requirements to teach in this field include Communication, Speech, Speech Communication, Communication Studies, Interpersonal Communication, Mass Communication, Communication Education, Public Address, Applied Communication, Health Communication, International Communication, Intercultural Communication, Organizational Communication, Political Communication, Performance Studies, Rhetorical Criticism, Communication Theory.
  • The following disciplines meet the requirements to teach in this field: Communication, Speech, Speech Communication, Communication Studies, Interpersonal Communication, Speech Communication, Intercultural Communication, Organizational Communication, or Communication Education.
  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Communication, Communication Studies, Human Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Speech Communication, Intercultural Communication, Organizational Communication, or Communication Education.
  • Three (3) plus academic years Communication teaching experience; specifically, 100-200 level communication courses at a community college or university.
  • Demonstrated experience applying active learning approaches to enhance student engagement and understanding of communication concepts.
  • Demonstrated use of a variety of formal and informal assessment methods for the purposes of gauging student learning and teaching effectiveness to improve learning.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and/or collaborating with students and colleagues in a variety of settings, including but not limited to: course design and development, committee involvement, leading student clubs or organizations outside the classroom, or supervising student projects.
  • One year of full-time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two years.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field.
  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Communication, Communication Studies, Human Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Speech Communication, Intercultural Communication, Organizational Communication, or Communication Education.
  • Three (3) plus academic years Communication teaching experience; specifically, 100-200 level communication courses at a community college or university.
  • Demonstrated experience applying active learning approaches to enhance student engagement and understanding of communication concepts.
  • Demonstrated use of a variety of formal and informal assessment methods for the purposes of gauging student learning and teaching effectiveness to improve learning.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and/or collaborating with students and colleagues in a variety of settings, including but not limited to: course design and development, committee involvement, leading student clubs or organizations outside the classroom, or supervising student projects.
  • One year of full-time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two years.

Pay

$51,774 - $99,672 /annually DOE

Schedule

30 hours per week - Must be available to teach in a variety of course modalities including in person and online classes. Work Calendar 9 Months
