About the role

TCNJ's School of the Arts and Communication comprises four academic departments, as well as arts and culture units that launch performances, exhibitions, radio & TV programs, and DIY workshops. The four departments are:

  • Art & Art Education
  • Communication, Journalism and Film
  • Design and Creative Technology
  • Music

The Arts/Culture units are:

  • Center for the Arts, comprising three performance venues, audio recording studio, technical and audience services
  • TCNJ Art Gallery, launching up to 5 exhibitions each academic year with relevant arts and academic programming
  • WTSR radio station and Lions TV studio
  • TCNJ MakerSpace, open to all students and faculty on campus

Reporting directly to the Dean, the Communication, Marketing and Outreach Specialist is the strategic lead for all communications in the School of the Arts and Communication. This role is responsible for planning, strategizing, and implementing a successful marketing and outreach program for the school, its four academic departments, its arts and culture units (including TCNJ’s Center for the Arts), and its pre-college programs, while ensuring a cohesive visual identity and adherence to TCNJ brand standards through collaboration with the college’s Office of Communications, Marketing and Brand Management (CMBM). The professional in this role will develop and promote the ArtsComm brand and establish the school and its various units as a premier destination for learning about and experiencing the arts and effective communication.

Responsibilities

  • Marketing Strategy & Execution: Define and implement comprehensive outreach plans for internal academic audiences and external audiences from the neighboring community.
  • Content Development and Management: Oversee the creation of marketing and communication materials, including all ArtsComm web pages, social media, print collateral, videography, weekly newsletter, e-blasts, and digital board management. Collaborate with Audience Services on the college event calendar. Draft copy for the Dean’s messaging.
  • Enrollment Management: Execute recruitment communications for first-year and transfer students, including strategic Slate communication campaigns, coordinating event participation, and supervising a Graduate Assistant focused on recruiting.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze enrollment data to identify school, region, or counselor relationships to leverage; determine what strategies are effective; and assess the relationship between ArtsComm engagement (such as pre-college summer experiences) and application/enrollment outcomes.
  • Supervising & Mentorship: Supervise student workers (e.g., for Graphic Design or Social Media). Mentor student speakers for commencement and other events.
  • Media Placement: Liaise with CMBM to elevate ArtsComm stories for TCNJ media, press releases, or other visible venues.

Requirements

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the capacity to write effectively to meet deadlines
  • Superior visual communication skills and judgment
  • Strategic thinking and planning for addressing relevant audiences
  • Confidence with data analysis
  • Relevant technical skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Minimum three years' experience as a communications and marketing professional

Required: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education (thirty semester hour credits are equal to one year of relevant experience):

  • Five years of professional experience in different aspects of administration and business practices, including design and implementation of policy and procedures, vendor service contracts, and improving and updating management practices.
  • Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of the above-mentioned professional experience.

Preferred: Experience working in higher education and/or in an arts and culture organization.

Qualifications

Employment at TCNJ is contingent upon the successful completion of an applicable background check, reference checks, and verification of identity and authorization to work in the United States (Form I-9).

In accordance with the New Jersey First Act P.L. 2011 c.70, new public employees in certain positions (faculty exempt) are required to obtain New Jersey residency within one year of employment.

Pay

Internal salary (for current NJ state employees with underlying classified status): Range 18, steps 1-11 - $58,222.22 - $84,763.22

External salary (for candidates who are not NJ state employees): Range 18, steps 1-4 - $58,222.22 - $66,184.52

Schedule

Full time, 12 months, 35 hours per week
