Commodity Planner
Position Summary
The Commodity Planner is responsible for monitoring inventory levels and issuing purchase orders to replenish inventory. The Planner facilitates timely deliveries within supply chain, maximizing productivity and minimizing downtime by working directly with the production facilities. This position must also work with the Transportation department to control freight cost while maintaining appropriate stock levels. In addition, the Commodity Planner is responsible for establishing great relationships with tactical support staff at our suppliers.
Key Accountabilities
- Establish effective relationships with the material managers at all plants, and work closely with them to address any material questions they have.
- Manage inventory levels by plant based on stocking plan and monitoring demand on assigned commodities.
- Manage and keep up to date data related to planning parameters and vendor contacts.
- Primary contact for inbound and outbound material movement.
Day To Day Responsibilities
- Place daily orders from multiple vendors to fulfill demand.
- Maintain and build vendor relations.
- Work with Customer Service to manage large order lead times and expedites for third party contractors.
- Identify and expedite material to meet production demand spikes for a make to order environment.
- Report on backorders/late shipments and work with Commodity Buyer to resolve any ongoing issues.
- Work closely with Commodity Buyer on new product launches, ensuring that all the parts are in place for testing and launch dates.
- Address major forecast discrepancies with vendors to meet production demand.
- Reconcile Accounts Payable discrepancies.

Required Education, Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Mid to advanced skills using all Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Planning and organization to set targets/milestones and follow through on commitments
- Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems
- Ability to work well in cross-functional teams in both plant and corporate environments
