Commodity Manager
About the role
The day begins with receiving an RFQ from the engineering team and reviewing it to ensure all required documents are included, clear, and ready for release. Once validated, the RFQ is issued to contractors who you had been previously notified of the bid opportunity. Throughout the afternoon, attention shifts to receiving bids on another project and following up with contractors to review proposals for scope, schedule, and commercial alignment. In parallel, you are aligning closely with the project team and engineering to incorporate their technical feedback into these discussions and ensure a coordinated evaluation process.
Responsibilities
- Solicit quotes from subcontractors for proposals and projects for the Electrical Installation, Civil & Building scopes of work on HV Substation projects.
- Negotiate price, scope, and contract terms with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Develop and maintain relationships with relevant subcontractors across the United States.
- Collaborate with subcontractors, equipment manufacturers, vendors, and internal teams to support detailed cost calculations for proposals.
- Review RFQ Documents provided by engineering to ensure RFQ is complete.
- Evaluates market conditions. Solicits cost reduction ideas from suppliers and initiates follow up action to implement these savings for the company.
Requirements
Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related field. Preferably 3-5 years’ Experience in Project Management, Estimating, or purchasing in the construction field. Knowledge of electrical systems and components used in high voltage substation construction preferred. (General construction experience accepted)
Strong individual contributor, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to influence and challenge cross-functional teams to meet project objectives. Self-motivated and solutions oriented, with a mentality for challenging the status quo while building strong, collaborative relationships across all partner levels.
Qualifications
Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
Skills
Experience in Project Management, Estimating, or purchasing in the construction field.
