About the Role

The Commodity Manager oversees commodities for direct material in support of HVAC market operations, specifically raw materials and flow control devices. This role identifies and engages with engineering, operations, and quality teams to understand commodity requirements and ensures the supply base is aligned. Responsibilities include developing and executing commodity strategies, conducting or supporting negotiations, and driving cost reductions through price negotiations, value analysis (VA/VE), or supplier continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute commodity strategies for assigned commodities.
  • Provide analytical support in commercial negotiations and supplier selections.
  • Maintain ownership of supplier relationships, including performance monitoring and execution of Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) reviews.
  • Support global synergy efforts for the direct materials organization.
  • Build and support a pipeline of cost savings projects for sustainable year-over-year productivity.
  • Track and drive dual sourcing initiatives for supplier risk mitigation.
  • Execute and report on supplier contracting initiatives.
  • Support the director in developing commodity strategy documents and 3-5 year growth playbook plans.
  • Provide weekly executive reporting on financial cost-down projects for assigned commodities.
  • Ensure continuity of supply, including actively monitoring and mitigating supplier risk.
  • Perform additional activities or projects as needed to support the business.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of progressive experience in commodity management or strategic sourcing, preferably in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Management, Business, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.

  • Demonstrated negotiation skills.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative abilities.
  • Ability to develop and balance both short- and long-term strategies.
  • Effective two-way communication and executive presentation skills.
  • Professional business acumen.
  • Willingness to travel (estimated 15% domestic/foreign).

Nature & Scope

This role applies advanced knowledge of the job area, typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. The Commodity Manager manages projects and processes independently with limited supervision, coaches and reviews the work of lower-level professionals, and addresses complex problems with innovative solutions.
