Commodity Buyer
About the Role
A typical day will include interfacing (via email, Teams, face to face) with your procurement team and other project team members from engineering, project management, supplier quality, logistics, as well as with your suppliers to ensure well-managed, organized tendering and execution of projects. Using your experience in purchasing processes and supplier relationships to develop commercial expertise for your commodity and supplier network.
Responsibilities
- Manage all purchasing responsibilities for a defined group of commodities.
- Perform and execute complex buying strategies to purchase and deliver equipment and materials on time and under budget.
- Review and analyze requisitions and supply plans for domestic and international purchases.
- Participate in the negotiation of prices, terms and conditions, and quality requirements.
- Expedite as needed and serve as liaison between supplier and users (engineers, project managers, supplier quality, and others as needed).
- Use problem-solving skills to resolve delivery, quality, invoicing, and pricing issues.
- Evaluate market conditions to develop risk mitigation measures for commodities.
- Lead initiatives for your commodities to find and develop new suppliers based on risk and capacity data.
- Solicit cost reduction ideas from suppliers and initiate follow-up action to implement these savings for the company.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of successful experience in purchasing.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to apply knowledge of field of specialization to the successful completion of complex assignments.
- Identify and resolve complex problems and issues.
- Ability to work independently and in a team atmosphere, using an organized and disciplined approach.
- Comfortable working in an international environment and willing to travel internationally.
- Ability to travel 10% of the time both domestically and internationally.
- Legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
About the Team
Our Gas Services division offers low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. We cover zero or low-emission power generation, gas turbines, steam turbines, and generators under one roof. Decarbonization opportunities are provided through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
