Commissioning Senior Project Manager

About the role
The Commissioning Senior Project Manager provides technical support and leadership to plan, schedule, and execute full life cycle commissioning of critical facilities on a programmatic basis. This role involves participating in the MEP design review process and functional testing of complex electrical and mechanical systems, with a focus on higher-level programmatic details. The Senior Project Manager supports all aspects of the project, working closely with owners, designers, contractors, subcontractors, and other trades in mission-critical environments.
This position is remote, with up to 75% domestic travel required. Relocation may be considered for long-term project needs. Must be located near a major airport.
Responsibilities
- Manage all Elements of Commissioning Projects (50%)
- Manage pre-construction elements including project initiation, kickoff, RFIs, and submittals
- Coordinate resource and material forecasting
- Develop, manage, and monitor schedules
- Participate in, schedule, and lead project meetings
- Coordinate and perform QA/QC and commissioning plans and specifications to ensure completion in accordance with project scope and guidelines
- Communicate and coordinate project staffing needs
- Oversee start-up, cutover, pre-functional or functional testing, and project closeout
- Onboard project team for mobilization
- Prepare project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Lead preparation of final commissioning report for submission to client
- Develop testing plans and procedures for complex projects
- Monitor and Control Project Financials (20%)
- Prepare, forecast, and monitor project budgets, profitability, margins, bill rates, and utilization
- Maintain overall responsibility for project profitability
- Communicate with clients regarding additional fees or change orders
- Identify potential project risks and develop strategies to minimize impact and control cost deviations
- Manage Stakeholder Relations (25%)
- Prepare proposals, presentations, and support marketing efforts
- Promote firm services and expertise to existing or potential clients
- Maintain client relationships to ensure ongoing positive engagement
- Identify and develop new projects with clients
- Serve as primary contact for clients and build long-term relationships
- Ensure client satisfaction through active communication
- Perform On-site Commissioning Activities (5%)
- Perform on-site commissioning activities including inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and equipment validation for electrical and mechanical systems
- Use technical testing equipment and coordinate vendors/contractors during execution
- Ensure assigned tasks and deliverables are completed on time and within budget
- Complete assigned tasks and deliverables on time and on budget
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- In-depth knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and controls system principles
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) with exceptional organizational skills for file management
- Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows and optimize operational processes
- Ability to work successfully in a remote environment through effective communication, self-motivation, and resourcefulness

- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prepare documents, reports, and correspondence

- Ability to achieve certification for NFPA 70E and/or OSHA training as required
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in commissioning, construction management, or MEP systems within mission-critical or critical facility environments
- Prior experience leading full life cycle commissioning projects, including design review, functional testing, and project closeout
- Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, and staffing on complex or programmatic projects
- Experience working directly with owners, designers, contractors, subcontractors, and other trades in construction or commissioning settings
- Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), Commissioning Process Management Professional (CPMP), or equivalent industry certification preferred
- Prior supervisory or project team leadership experience preferred
Physical Demands
- Frequently manipulate, move, or grasp small parts, devices, or tools
- Frequently required to remain in a stationary position
- Frequently move through various environments, including critical facilities, low/high temperatures, and outdoor elements
- Frequently ascend/descend stairs and ladders and move through tight or confined spaces to access equipment
- Occasionally position self under or over equipment
- Occasionally move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Travel
- Up to 75% domestic travel, including travel to any or all 50 U.S. states
- Must be located near a major airport
- Must be able to rent vehicles and hold a valid driver’s license
- Effective May 7, 2025, a valid REAL ID (or acceptable alternative, such as a passport) will be required for domestic air travel
- Travel may involve transportation by car or plane depending on destination and business needs
- Potential relocation opportunities may exist per project needs

Pay
The pay range for this role is $120,000 – $160,000 USD per year.
