Position Overview
Saronic Technologies is seeking a Captain to conduct end of line testing and commissioning of their mid-sized autonomous surface vessel, Marauder. This role involves ensuring the safe and efficient navigation of the vessel, while conducting commissioning tests and builder sea trial testing operations.
Responsibilities
- Vessel Operations: Ensure safe navigation and supervision of the onboard crew.
- External Coordination & Maritime Compliance: Coordinate with various stakeholders and manage vessel movements, berthing, and logistics.
- External Coordination & Maritime Compliance: Maintain communication with regulatory bodies and ensure compliance with USCG, SOLAS, IMO, and Class regulations.
- External Coordination & Maritime Compliance: Serve as the primary point of contact for field operations involving internal and external maritime infrastructure and support services.
Required Qualifications
- Valid U.S. Coast Guard 500/1600T Master License of Self-propelled Vessels Upon Oceans. Unlimited Master’s license desired.
- STCW Basic Training, GMDSS Operator, OICNW, Medical PIC, FCC License
- Proven experience in a senior officer role aboard crewed vessels in dynamic maritime environments.
- Strong knowledge of maritime navigation, safety procedures, shipboard emergency procedures, and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to interpret nautical charts, weather forecasts, and navigational tools to support mission planning and execution.
- Valid TWIC, USCG STCW Medical Certificate, and passport.
- Strong knowledge in ship handling, voyage planning, marine navigation, port operations, and International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS).
- Able to maintain operational logs, maintenance records, and support inspection readiness.
- Strong knowledge of USCG, SOLAS, and Class regulations and the ability to maintain vessel compliance.
- Proficiency in voyage/route planning software, GIS tools, and maritime navigation systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
- Strong leadership qualities, including the ability to motivate and inspire team members.
Desired Qualifications
- Familiarity / experience with maneuvering characteristics of jet-drive propelled vessels.
- Experience with autonomous or unmanned systems.
- Prior experience working with the DoD or other government agencies.

Physical Demands
- Ability to certify as “fit for work” by demonstrating ability to swim and tread water.
- Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to marine environments, including sun, wind, rain, cold, and saltwater spray, often for extended periods.
- Work in daylight, low-light, and night conditions using marine navigation systems and visual cues.
- Perform physically demanding work i.e. stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time including up to 12 hours/day.
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, platforms, or other high structures.
- Stand and walk for up to 10 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain.

- Work in a hot and humid environment and follow safe practices to stay hydrated.
- Hearing ability sufficient to detect alarms, verbal instructions, and workplace hazards in a high-noise environment.
- Work in a shipyard environment, including indoor fabrication shops, onboard vessels under construction, and outdoor areas exposed to changing weather conditions.
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hat and adhere to prescribed safety rules and guidelines.
