Overall responsibility for managing the commissioning phase of Photovoltaic plants to ensure successful handover. Direct, plan, and manage construction projects from completion of construction, pre-operation testing, and commissioning through plant handover.
This is a traveling position (up to 100%) with opportunities across the U.S. Average project duration is 8-12 months. Designated daily per diem, company vehicle, fuel card, and purchase card provided. Eligible for routine travel home (rotation) from the jobsite.
Responsibilities
- Lead commissioning of utility-scale solar projects to ensure compliance with program and company/safety policies.
- Prepare detailed commissioning schedules for each project, covering pre-commissioning through final testing.
- Determine size and responsibilities of the commissioning team for each site.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
- Prepare and manage commissioning documents per contract obligations; set up organized site folders.
- Manage third-party testing when necessary; review and verify testing documentation.
- Maintain systematic, well-organized records and paperwork for the entire job.
- Make key decisions thoughtfully to ensure schedules, timelines, and deadlines are met.
- Study, communicate, and improve productivity analysis.
- Maintain discipline, professionalism, and effective communication on the jobsite.
- Interview, hire, train, and manage direct reports; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance.
- Work with Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) Supervisor to ensure proper execution of LOTO on site.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five years’ experience in a supervisory role.
- Commissioning experience on solar, BESS, or wind construction projects preferred.
- Ability to organize, instruct, and supervise commissioning crews in all facets of construction.
- Ability to carry out commissioning and start-up of plant components according to manuals.
- Ability to forecast, monitor, estimate time and costs of commissioning activities.
- Knowledge of commissioning tools, machinery, methods, procedures, and safety requirements.
- Ability to supervise testing, commissioning, and start-up of high, medium, low voltage, and DC equipment/electrical systems in compliance with standards, schedule, and safety/quality requirements.
- Ability to coordinate project teams, including project managers and commissioning personnel.
- Understanding of commissioning methods, scheduling, and problem-solving.
- Demonstrated leadership, motivation, and communication skills with workers and superiors.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, email, internet, spreadsheets, documents, photos, and field time entry.
- Skilled in project management practices and problem-solving.
- Ability to train and manage crews effectively under pressure and within timelines.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups.
- Ability to calculate figures and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions in math and logic of electrical equipment protection.
- Knowledge of protection logic of electrical machinery, instrumentation, relay settings, and troubleshooting.
- Take reasonable care for personal and others' health and safety, working toward company’s Zero Injury principles.

Pay
$125,000 - $145,000 / year, commensurate with experience.
