Commissioning - Field Services

About the role

WSP USA is initiating a search for a full-time Commissioning – Field Services position in our New York office. Our engineers work on high-quality, high-profile, national, and international projects. The successful candidate will assist with the execution of building commissioning processes (new/retrofit/continuous), energy auditing and building retrofit applications, support for sustainability certification applications, and measurement and verification techniques.

Responsibilities

• Collect, compile, and analyze data from physical work sites during various construction phases, surveys, blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, flow diagrams, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project energy auditing actions, validation, and commissioning.
• Perform professional building and system commissioning work by conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, layout, usage, and systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and installation or operating permits.
• Develop configuring, testing specifications, and readiness plans; prepare and update checklists/punch lists and cost estimates in coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
• Be involved from project inception to completion for commissioning work deliverables across concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, integration, installation, and operation.
• Assist with advanced technologies, monitoring, modeling techniques, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications, implementing future-ready solutions with building systems operating standards.
• Assist cross-functional teams with executing project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, technical calculations, permit applications, schematics, construction, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
• Assist with commissioning and operational plans, ensuring data integrity and work is compliant with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
• Prepare data visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, cross-sections, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and other 2D/3D illustrations for interpretation or presentation of complex data, findings, or analyses.
• Maintain quality control standards, document logs of control and equipment functionality testing and verification, and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, calculations, statistical analysis, and reporting.
• Develop and scope commissioning projects.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to navigate, improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or installation/operational issues or opportunities.
• Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data obtained during site assessments; provide input for developing action plans for moderate- to high-level risk installation, equipment operations, and/or mitigation activities.
• Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
• Collaborate with other professionals, engineers, inspectors, project control, and technicians on public and privately funded building improvement and development projects, as well as proposal and business development opportunities.
• Remain current in the latest commissioning techniques and practices.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct; adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Experience with 480-Volt electrical systems, executing/witnessing electrical testing using equipment such as power quality meters, circuit breaker test sets, contact/insulation resistance meters, and infrared cameras.
• Experience with Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS), Back Up Battery Systems, Static Switches (STS) and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), Emergency Generators, and Power Distribution Units (PDUs).
• Knowledge of 5kV–26kV systems and protection relays is preferred.
• Experience with witnessing and executing pre-functional, functional, and integrated electrical testing.
• Knowledge of NETA, IEEE, and NFPA-70 electrical testing standards.
• Knowledge of Short Circuit/Coordination/Arc Flash Studies.
• Understanding of the architectural, engineering, and construction industry.
• Knowledge of sustainable design practices or facilities operations is preferred.
• Ability to work independently under the supervision of senior leadership in a highly collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• 0–2+ years of relevant post-education experience in the discipline with prior building and systems commissioning experience.
• Knowledge of building commissioning principles, practices, process, design/build, and application to project work-related issues.
• Technical knowledge of HVAC and electrical building systems to evaluate and assess the performance of these systems.
• Total facilities commissioning experience preferred.

Pay

Expected Salary: $49,200 – $65,000 (based on education, experience, skills, internal equity, and specific geographic location). WSP USA reserves the right to adjust the range and offer additional benefits depending on circumstances not related to protected status.
