About the role
The Commissioning Engineer I supports the creation of project commissioning plans, resourcing plans, and execution of commissioning activities. Responsibilities include defining commissioning requirements, creating LOTO plans and start-up scripts, documenting equipment performance, providing support during start-up activities, troubleshooting installed equipment, and reporting on equipment functions.
Responsibilities
- Works with Preconstruction Managers and Project Managers to define commissioning requirements and establish plans.
- Aids in creating LOTO plans and start-up scripts.
- Completes detailed procedures and checklists to document equipment performance and integration.
- Establishes structure, trains, and implements LOTO and start-up scripts.
- Conducts field surveys, collects and enters data to ensure equipment compliance.
- Provides support material and reports to Project Managers and commissioning team.
- Documents equipment functions according to project specifications and requirements.
- Supports field commissioning activities through research and addressing needs.
- Provides guidance to office and field teams to ensure start-up activities comply with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
- Collaborates with equipment providers to troubleshoot installed equipment during start-up, testing, and commissioning.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
- Experience: 3 to 8 years of related experience or 5 to 12 years of electrical commissioning experience
- Proficiency in using a PC and Microsoft Office Suite
- Understanding of one-lines, schematics & drawings
- Knowledge of electrical terminology and components
- Knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC)
Qualifications
- Ability to understand and interpret facility and equipment functional requirements
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Understanding of electrical systems and components
- Knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC)
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
