About the team

The AWS Data Center Commissioning Team (ACx) is a wholly independent business within the DCGS organization. This team of veteran professional Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Controls Engineers, Architectural Engineers, Project Managers, Operators, and seasoned Amazonians provides deeply detailed engineering and operational review and testing of equipment designs, operational functionality, and construction practices. We focus on ensuring rapid delivery of a quality product while maintaining full transparency, recording metrics of manufacturer/contractor/equipment issues, and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide testing and validation oversight of AWS data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
• Review design documents, lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT), and manage third-party commissioning vendors in performing onsite pre-functional, functional, and integrated systems testing.
• Take ownership of project successes by resolving technical issues and addressing changing schedule and coordination demands.
• Communicate lessons learned and collaborate on program improvements.
• Provide multi-discipline input into scheduling, test script development, designing, and planning of projects.
• Review component submittal packages, lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT), and perform system-level and integrated system testing.
• Audit activities to ensure compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements during commissioning.
• Provide comprehensive weekly reporting on the status of ongoing projects and lessons learned to improve program quality.
• Coordinate site activities, prioritize tasks, and ensure issues have clear paths to resolution across AWS engineering, capacity delivery, operations, and contractor teams.
• Manage project commissioning vendors to identify issues, determine criticality, propose solutions, and document findings.
• Escalate risks to project turnover to appropriate stakeholders.
• Communicate lessons learned upon project completion and participate in initiatives driving improvement to the commissioning program.

Requirements

• 5+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years of relevant discipline work experience.
• High technical competency in mechanical, electrical, or control systems used in critical infrastructures, with the ability to learn and train in other disciplines.
• Ability to understand design concepts and intent by reviewing mechanical or electrical design documentation, including drawings, specifications, vendor submittals, and sequences of operations, and provide feedback aligned with Amazon standards.
• Develop and review commissioning documentation such as test plans, scripts, and reports to ensure accuracy in accordance with design requirements.
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally for up to 80% of the year.
• Required to provide personal transportation for meetings and job visits away from the office (reimbursed).
• US Citizenship required.

Qualifications

• Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submittals.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); SharePoint or similar preferred.
• Strong communication skills, detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to work in high-stress environments while maintaining calm and respectful interactions.
• Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for critical infrastructures.
• Ability to read and edit construction documents (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications, etc.).

Pay

Base salary ranges by location:

• USA, CO (Denver): $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually
• USA, GA (Atlanta): $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually
• USA, IN (New Carlisle): $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually
• USA, MS (Canton/Vicksburg): $105,100.00 - $157,300.00 USD annually
• USA, NC (Charlotte): $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually
