Accountabilities
- Underwrite a broad range of commercial lending products, including complex transactions, while maintaining appropriate credit risk and return standards.
- Review, analyze, and evaluate new deal packages to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with credit policies and underwriting standards.
- Partner with business development teams to provide consultative credit guidance throughout the proposal and transaction process.
- Analyze financial statements, cash flows, collateral values, and business performance trends to assess creditworthiness.
- Gain a deep understanding of customer businesses, including factors influencing growth, operational challenges, and financial performance.
- Manage the complete underwriting lifecycle from initial review through approval, documentation, and closing.
- Prepare detailed credit narratives and approval documentation for internal review committees and decision-makers.
- Review due diligence materials, customer reporting requirements, and transaction documentation.
- Collaborate with customers, legal teams, and internal stakeholders to resolve documentation requirements and support successful closings.
- Conduct customer visits and management discussions when required for larger transactions.
- Support portfolio quality by identifying risks, opportunities, and financial trends.
- Mentor and provide guidance to analysts and less experienced team members.
- Adapt quickly to evolving systems, processes, and business requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- 5+ years of relevant commercial underwriting, credit analysis, or equipment finance experience.
- Strong understanding of commercial lending principles, credit risk assessment, and financial analysis.
- Experience reviewing financial statements, analyzing cash flow, and evaluating collateral.
- Able to interpret business performance trends and make informed credit recommendations.
- Customer-focused mindset with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of underwriting decisions.
- Able to quickly learn and navigate various technology platforms, systems, and procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality underwriting standards.
