About the role

At EMC, we're dedicated to making a positive impact through collaborative work. This position can be performed remotely for candidates residing in the Milwaukee, WI area, with a preference for those who can work one day on-site per week.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and grows a profitable book of business for assigned middle market territory, adhering to underwriting authority.
  • Evaluates accounts for risk selection and pricing purposes.
  • Analyzes exposure, company and region risk appetite, account premium and loss history, financial data, line(s) of business, price guidance, motor vehicle records, online sources of information, reports from Premium Audit or Loss Control and other relevant information to underwrite policies.
  • Offers appropriate coverage, terms and conditions for exposures.
  • Develops and fosters agency relationships.
  • Edits agents on EMC products, underwriting appetite, systems, and services.
  • Visits agencies to discuss accounts and provide agents with updates at EMC.
  • Collaborates with marketing representatives to ensure agents receive excellent customer experiences, responsiveness, and select EMC as their insurer of choice.
  • Effectively communicates risk acceptance and/or rejection decisions to agents.
  • Collaborates with experienced underwriters to continue to develop understanding of company and regional risk appetite.
  • Consults experienced underwriters to ask questions and gain understanding in underwriting best practices.
  • Participates in the agency planning and review processes with marketing and regional management.
  • Makes regular visits to assigned agents to guide them in achieving annual goals.

Requirements

  • Commercial Underwriter II: Bachelor's degree, preferably in insurance or business administration, or equivalent relevant experience. One year of experience in commercial lines underwriting. Insurance designations, such as CPCU, preferred.
  • Commercial Underwriter III: Bachelor's degree, preferably in insurance or business administration, or equivalent relevant experience. Three years of experience in commercial lines underwriting or related experience. Insurance designations, such as AINS, AU, CIC, or CPCU, preferred.

Pay

The hiring salary range for this position varies based on geographic location, falling within either of the following ranges: $60,813 - $84,038 or $67,200 - $92,395. A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.

Schedule

Occasional travel; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if driving.
