Commercial Roofing Safety Technician

Responsibilities
- Maintain all required safety records and files
- Be able and willing to travel
- Report any unsafe conditions to the safety director
- Aid in understanding and implementing OSHA regulations and standards
- Train managers and employees on safety topics
- Investigate all injuries and report to top management
- Conduct job site safety inspections and recommend improvements
- Evaluate hazardous conditions and assist in developing hazard control practices
- Assist in communicating hazard control information and assess its effectiveness
- Guide and assist field, office, and warehouse personnel with safety and health issues
- Oversee company accident statistics and suggest corrective measures
- Communicate with government agencies on safety and health matters
- Participate in safety committees and other related activities
- Prepare and coordinate monthly safety meetings
- Attend weekly job meetings to address site-specific issues
- Coordinate weekly toolbox talks
- Prepare EHS documents as required
- Support the overall success of environmental, health, and safety programs
- Perform additional safety duties as assigned by the Safety Director

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED plus three years in a commercial roofing environment
- Valid driver’s license
- Considerable knowledge of OSHA Standards as they pertain to construction and roofing
- Considerable knowledge of various commercial roofing systems, materials, and installation methods
- Good knowledge of Federal, State, and local environmental, health, and safety codes
- Some knowledge of construction site development, commercial construction, demolition, and remodel procedures
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and/or concrete variables.
Work Environment
The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and the use of personal protective equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands
- Frequent lifting and carrying between 15 and 50 pounds
- Frequent twisting, reaching, bending, stooping, and squatting
- Ability to work on and climb ladders up to 40 feet tall or scaffolding
- Ability to maintain or regain body balance or stay upright when in an unstable position
- Ability to work in a loud and noisy environment
- Ability to work in environments with fumes, dust, dirt, smoke, gases, grease, and oils and solvents
- Ability to be aware of surrounding area due to working at high levels and with hot products
- Manual dexterity to complete projects in a craftsman fashion
- Knowledge of and ability to follow safety practices and procedures used in working on ladders and roofs
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions year-round with exposure to excessive heat and cold
