This position is responsible for developing and managing commercial accounts that meet established requirements, with a focus on customer service and maximizing profitability while minimizing risk for the bank. The role may be filled at Level I, II, or III, with additional responsibilities and qualifications applicable at each level.
Responsibilities
- Understand credit, commercial products, and financial statement analysis to offer beneficial banking solutions.
- Manage an existing portfolio and seek opportunities to generate incremental revenue while meeting customer financial goals.
- Engage with customers regularly to enhance trusted advisor relationships, ensure business needs are met, provide high-level customer service, and create cross-sell opportunities.
- Practice commercial loan portfolio management through project analysis, loan underwriting, risk analysis, packaging and presentation, renewal processing, loan documentation, closing, collateral analysis, and past-due notice management.
- Develop business through customer and prospect calls to gain experience in outside loan production, negotiations, and new business goals.
- Maintain professional community relations to increase the bank’s visibility and new business opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with established commercial banking policies and procedures, adhering to the bank’s risk appetite for loan and credit quality.
- Maintain a prudent portfolio with non-performing loans within acceptable risk tolerance limits.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Level II Additional Responsibilities
- Make recommendations for credit approval to the Senior Loan Committee and present as needed.
- Develop and execute market strategies for growth, retention, and client relationship expansion.
- Prospect for clients independently using referrals, existing clients, and market strategies.
- Collaborate with product partners (e.g., Treasury Management, Wealth Management) to tailor relationship strategies for clients or prospects.
- Manage portfolios for medium to large-sized businesses.
- Mentor less experienced relationship managers.
Level III Additional Responsibilities
- Assume a leadership role in the bank’s business development activities.
- Approve or reject loans exceeding the credit authority of subordinate relationship managers, up to approved lending limits.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related major, or relevant job experience.
- Minimum of three years of proven and progressive commercial banking or credit experience.
- Experience with commercial banking risk analysis.
- Understanding of banking and credit approval processes, as well as pertinent bank policies and external regulations.
- Practical working knowledge of sales principles.
- Prior experience with financial services products and services.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical, time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task in a deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships.
Level II Additional Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of proven and progressive commercial banking or credit experience.
- Underwriting experience preferred.
- Enhanced knowledge of credit analysis practice and procedure.
Level III Additional Qualifications
- Minimum of eight years managing a commercial loan portfolio with a proven sales track record and business development acumen.
- Enhanced knowledge of pricing models, profitability forecasting, and credit analysis practice and procedure.
- Fully developed understanding of banking and credit approval processes according to bank policies and external regulations.
- Proven track record of business development skills, especially with established customers.
- Previous experience as an underwriter preferred.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
Must be able to sit for long periods of time and use a computer keyboard and/or mouse while viewing computer screens.
