About the role

Ahold Delhaize USA, a division of global food retailer Ahold Delhaize, supports five leading omnichannel grocery brands—Food Lion, Giant Food, The GIANT Company, Hannaford, and Stop & Shop—with services including Finance, Legal, Sustainability, Commercial, Digital, E-commerce, and Technology.

This position is responsible for preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on assigned stores' HVAC, ice machines, and refrigeration systems. The role involves completing work orders, entering data into the maintenance service tracking system (Service Channel), and responding to after-hours calls. The individual will optimize energy efficiency by minimizing equipment failures, refrigerant loss, and maintaining system set points to control Refrigeration/HVAC spend for assigned stores.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee day-to-day maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of assigned stores, including HVAC, electrical, lighting, energy management, and hardware.
  • Plan and generate work orders, obtain necessary tools and materials, and complete system entries in compliance with EPA Regulations.
  • Inspect and evaluate all areas of assigned stores, troubleshoot and repair refrigeration systems, ice machines, air conditioning, heating, and related systems.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to recommend repairs and upgrades to store managers and maintenance supervisors.
  • Ensure adherence to safety guidelines, including safe work habits, proper equipment use, and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Coordinate and conduct preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Communicate building operations status and conditions to stakeholders, reporting potential or ongoing problems promptly.
  • Update control set-points for refrigeration systems and EMS controls; troubleshoot electrical control wiring.
  • Analyze mechanical operation of refrigeration and HVAC units for proper functionality.
  • Assist in facilitating cost-effective repairs of electrical systems and building components, including doors, frames, gaskets, and refrigerated cases.
  • Manage Refrigeration/HVAC spend, including equipment repairs, refrigerant leak rates, and economical maintenance methods.
  • Respond to work order requests and after-hours emergency calls, including nights and weekends.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • EPA Certification (Universal).
  • State licensures, if required.
  • 3+ years of experience in a related field.

Skills

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to climb ladders for service above ceilings and roof access.
  • Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs. and lift/move 100 lbs. (with assistance).
  • Willingness to respond to after-hours/weekend emergency service calls.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel daily throughout the assigned region in a company-provided work vehicle.
