Commercial Refrigeration Technician Serving Food Lion Brand Stores

About the Role

Ahold Delhaize USA, a division of global food retailer Ahold Delhaize, supports five leading omnichannel grocery brands—Food Lion, Giant Food, The GIANT Company, Hannaford, and Stop & Shop—with services including Finance, Legal, Sustainability, Commercial, Digital and E-commerce, and Technology. This role is responsible for providing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on assigned stores' HVAC, ice machines, and refrigeration systems. The position involves completing work orders, entering data into the maintenance service tracking system (Service Channel), and responding to after-hours calls. The individual will also be accountable for managing Refrigeration/HVAC spend by minimizing equipment failures, refrigerant loss, and optimizing energy efficiency through system set points.

Responsibilities

• Perform and/or oversee day-to-day maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of assigned stores, including HVAC, electrical, lighting, energy management, and hardware systems.
• Plan and generate work orders, obtain necessary tools and materials, and complete system entries in compliance with EPA Regulations.
• Inspect and evaluate all areas of assigned stores, troubleshoot and repair refrigeration systems, ice machines, air conditioning, heating, and related systems, and recommend improvements.
• Act as a trusted advisor to store managers and maintenance supervisors for repairs and upgrades.
• Ensure adherence to safety guidelines, including safe work practices, proper equipment use, and reporting unsafe conditions.
• Coordinate and conduct preventive maintenance tasks.
• Communicate building operations status and conditions to stakeholders, reporting potential or ongoing problems promptly.
• Update control set-points for refrigeration systems and EMS controls; handle electrical control wiring and troubleshooting.
• Analyze mechanical operation of refrigeration and HVAC units for proper functionality.
• Assist supervisors in facilitating cost-effective repairs of electrical and building components, including doors, frames, gaskets, latches, and closures on refrigerated cases.
• Manage Refrigeration/HVAC spend, including equipment repairs, refrigerant leak rates, and economical maintenance methods.
• Respond to work order requests and after-hours emergency calls, including nights and weekends.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• EPA Certification (Universal).
• State licensures, if required.
• 3+ years of experience in a related field.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Strong communication, interaction, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to multi-task and troubleshoot effectively.
• Ability to climb ladders for service above ceilings and roof access.
• Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs. and lift/move 100 lbs. (with assistance).
• Willingness to respond to after-hours/weekend emergency service calls.
• Excellent computer, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to travel daily throughout the assigned region in a company-provided work vehicle.
