Commercial Plan Examiner
Description
Under the supervision of the Chief Building Official and the Commissioner of the Division of Construction Permitting, conducts plan examination for code compliance for commercial and residential construction documents for conformance with the Ohio Building Code, Residential Code of Ohio, Cleveland Zoning Code, and the Cleveland Codified Ordinances as applicable.
Prepares correction letters, adjudication orders, and plan approval letters.
Provides code consultation with applicants, design professionals, contractors, and developers.
Represents the Department of Building and Housing at hearings and meetings including the Board of Building Standards and the Board of Zoning Appeals.
Performs other job-related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university;
- Five years of full-time paid experience in building design and construction for buildings or structures within the scope of groups regulated by the rules of the Ohio Board of Building Standards;
- A full Ohio Board of Building Standards Certification as a Building Plans Examiner, Electrical Plans Examiner, Mechanical Plans Examiner, Fire Prevention Plans Examiner, Plumbing Plans Examiner or Master Plans Examiner are required.
- A full Ohio Board of Building Standards Certification as a Residential Plans Examiner, Building Inspector, Building Official or Residential Building Official with the ability to gain approval as a Residential Plans Examiner is required.
- Must be computer proficient using Word, Excel, and Microsoft Office.
- Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Must have the Limited Commercial Plans Examiner with one or more commercial specialization listed below:
- Building Plans Examiner
- Mechanical Plans Examiner
- Electrical Plans Examiner
- Plumbing Plans Examiner
- Fire Protection Plans Examiner
- Residential Plan Examiner
