Responsibilities
- Litigation Management: Lead and manage all phases of litigation and arbitration, including early case assessments, discovery processes, trial preparation, motions, and appeals.
- Develop and implement effective litigation strategies that align with corporate objectives and risk tolerance.
- Spearhead defense and management of class action lawsuits across a wide range of subject areas.
- Dispute Resolution: Serve as the point person for resolving disputes and litigation involving large-scale commercial contracts, licensing disputes, and supplier agreements.
- Facilitate risk assessments and propose innovative solutions that minimize legal exposure while optimizing business opportunities.
- Lead settlement negotiations and dispute resolution efforts with external companies, including suppliers and customers, to achieve favorable outcomes while preserving critical business relationships.
- Develop negotiation strategies tailored to high-stakes and sensitive matters, balancing legal priorities with business concerns.
- Counseling: Act as a trusted legal advisor to senior leadership, providing high-level strategic guidance on litigation strategy and dispute resolution as it impacts overall business objectives and operations.
- Collaborate with various departments (e.g., compliance, operations) to ensure alignment on legal strategies and policies.
- Leadership in High-Stakes Situations: Ability to articulate complex legal strategies clearly and confidently in high-pressure executive meetings, ensuring alignment between legal and business goals.
- Demonstrated success navigating cross-functional teams and contentious external negotiations.
- Outside Counsel Management: Manage relationships with external legal firms, including oversight of their work, establishment of performance expectations, performance evaluations, and budget management.
- Provide insight and perspective on counsel selections. Ensure that outside counsel aligns with Honeywell Aerospace’s legal and business goals while maintaining high-quality legal services and utmost integrity.
- Communication and Reporting: Prepare written materials and presentations on disputes and litigation, clearly and concisely articulating facts, legal arguments, and strategies.
- Present comprehensive litigation reports and case updates to senior and executive leadership, ensuring clear articulation of risks and strategies.
- Communicate litigation strategies and outcomes effectively to internal stakeholders.
- Risk Mitigation and Compliance: Proactively monitor and identify trends in the legal landscape that could impact Honeywell Aerospace and propose proactive strategies to mitigate potential risks.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations while managing litigation-related matters.
- Lead and initiate strategic risk mitigation efforts across the business and conduct trainings.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- At least 7 years of experience practicing corporate law, with a focus on commercial litigation.
- Experience managing complex litigation and arbitration cases.
- Proven ability to develop and implement effective litigation strategies.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience in high-stakes and sensitive matter settlements.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, particularly in executive settings.
- Experience working with external legal firms and managing relationships with them.
- Ability to navigate cross-functional teams and external negotiations.
- Proven track record of risk mitigation and compliance in a corporate legal environment.
