Commercial Lender / Banker

About the role

This position is responsible for developing new business and driving the growth and profitability of a commercial portfolio consisting of large, complex commercial relationships. The role maintains a strong sales and service culture with an emphasis on sound underwriting decisions, while servicing and expanding the existing portfolio. The position actively promotes the bank’s products and services through community engagement and marketing efforts.

Responsibilities

• Develop and retain commercial business by meeting with current or prospective customers of extreme complexity.
• Accept commercial loan applications, process information, and analyze all relevant financial data.
• Determine creditworthiness of customers in adherence to bank policies and ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.
• Collaborate with customers and potential customers to educate them on various services and products applicable to their financial needs.
• Approve or decline loan requests within established credit authority.
• Maintain a commercial loan portfolio of larger, more complex accounts and monitor relationships to assess credit deterioration or risk on an ongoing basis.
• Maintain the existing loan portfolio, including managing and minimizing loan exceptions, outstanding documentation, and updating financial information routinely.
• Request analysis on new and renewed loan requests in accordance with loan policy for approval by management or loan committee.
• Serve as the primary contact for commercial service needs within assigned portfolios and promote bank products and services through external sales efforts to enhance customer relationships.
• Analyze potential markets and develop referral networks within the community to locate prospects for bank relationships.
• Maintain knowledge of new commercial lending products, services, loan policies, documentation, structuring, and regulatory requirements.
• Work closely with other commercial banking staff, credit administration, and/or the Chief Banking Officer, as well as junior commercial lending staff.
• Attend and present loan requests to the Bank Loan Committee (BLC) or Senior Credit Committee as needed.
• Actively participate in local civic organizations and professional functions to enhance business opportunities and promote the bank’s image.
• Regularly refresh knowledge of online, mobile, electronic, and traditional products and services.
• Practice and rehearse customer engagement skills around the bank’s suite of products and services to demonstrate expertise and build customer respect.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field, or a minimum of 10 years of banking experience primarily in commercial lending.
• Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
• Must successfully complete required training.

Skills

• Knowledge of lending policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
• Detailed knowledge of credit analysis processes and complex loan structuring.
• Ability to effectively manage a commercial loan portfolio, including credit quality and risk identification for complex relationships.
• Strong analytical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and ability to implement corrective actions in lending situations.
• Ability to interact tactfully and courteously with staff and the public, and establish effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in computer software, including underwriting/lending software and Microsoft Office.

Pay

Salary Range: $100,900 to $157,300
