About The Opportunity
Our commercial teams play a critical role in delivering some of the UK's most exciting construction and fit out projects. Working in partnership with operational teams, clients, and supply chain partners, our commercial professionals help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work across a broad range of sectors and project types within Wates' Construction businesses, gaining exposure to complex and varied schemes throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will vary depending on level and experience but may include:
Assistant Surveyor
- Supporting the commercial management of projects.
- Assisting with subcontractor procurement and administration.
- Supporting the preparation of valuations, applications for payment, and cost reports.
- Assisting with change management and project forecasting.
- Developing commercial and contractual knowledge through hands-on project experience.
Site/Project Surveyor
- Managing project costs and commercial performance.
- Procuring and managing subcontract packages.
- Preparing valuations, forecasts, cost reports, and cash flow information.
- Identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
- Ensuring robust contract administration and compliance.
- Building strong relationships with clients, project teams, and supply chain partners.
Commercial Manager
- Leading commercial strategy across projects or portfolios.
- Managing and developing commercial teams.
- Driving profitability, risk management, and contractual compliance.
- Supporting business objectives through strategic commercial leadership.
- Influencing senior stakeholders and contributing to wider business performance.
- Ensuring best practice commercial management across multiple projects.
What We're Looking For
We're interested in speaking with candidates who have:
- Experience working within a commercial or quantity surveying function.
- A background with a main contractor, preferably within Tier 1 or Tier 2 construction contracting environments.
- Knowledge of construction contracts and commercial management principles.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- The ability to build effective relationships with clients, colleagues, and supply chain partners.
- A proactive approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
Qualifications
Depending on level, candidates may hold:
- A degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Progress toward, or membership of, a relevant professional body such as RICS or CIOB.
