Responsibilities
- Installs and maintains a variety of electrical equipment including fixtures, conductors, raceway systems, grounding systems, panel-boards, transformers, motors, controls, over-current protection, fire detection and alarm systems, appliances, communications systems, actuating devices, security-related components, and other equipment.
- Maintains an adequate inventory of spare parts, monitors system performance and demand to ensure compliance with safety and energy savings guidelines.
- Maintains records of test reports, blueprints, as built plans, and other documentation, and reports on the status of assigned equipment maintenance, repairs, capacities and efficiency to the supervisor.
- Prepares written requirements for repairs or for ordering parts from a supplier.
- Develops work procedures which identify tasks/steps and conducts hazard analysis.
- Examines and tests elements of electrical systems to locate faults, defects, and unsafe conditions.
- Corrects problems in electrical systems by troubleshooting circuits, replacing defective equipment such as over-current protection, wiring, motors, starters, and other related electrical parts, and removing items from the power supply to halt unsafe operation.
- May provide direction to lower-level staff or contractors as assigned to assist on related work.
- Orders parts and supplies as needed.
- Generates data on materials and time required to accomplish specific tasks for use in estimates; accurately records data regarding materials and time expended in appropriate logs.
- Implements an effective preventive maintenance program using the site's computerized maintenance management system (CMMS); performs preventive/predictive maintenance, repairs and adjustments on systems and controls, monitors and records effectiveness of maintenance activities and takes corrective actions.
Qualifications
- Must understand and apply knowledge of regulatory codes and requirements, including the National Electric Code and local codes; skill in interpreting schematic drawings, charts, and technical instructions; and good oral and written communication skills.
- Job typically requires trade or vocational school education to nearly the journeyman electrician level and to obtain equivalent on the job training skills over a period of 5 years.
- Must be able to work with minimum supervision by prioritizing and coordinating multiple assignments, initiating action, taking responsibility for completion of assignments, and communicating progress to customers and management.
- Must be self-motivated.
