Commercial Electrical Design Engineer
About the role
The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and testing electrical systems for commercial building projects to ensure performance, safety, and code compliance. The Electrical Design Engineer utilizes CAD software, including AutoCAD and MicroStation, to produce accurate electrical drawings and layouts. The Electrical Design Engineer works with stakeholders to identify and resolve electrical system issues, apply electrical theory, codes, and industry standards, and collaborates with mechanical and structural teams to ensure successful system integration and project execution. This position will report to our office location in Huntsville, AL at Redstone Arsenal.
Essential duties & responsibilities
- Designing and testing electrical systems: Responsible for creating and validating electrical designs for commercial buildings.
- Using CAD software: Proficient in design and layout software like AutoCAD and Microstation.
- Problem-solving: Identifying and resolving issues within electrical systems.
- Commercial Building Design
- Technical knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical theory, codes, and industry standards.
- Collaboration: Working with cross-functional teams to integrate electrical systems with mechanical and structural components.
Minimum qualifications
- BS. Electrical Engineering
Additional qualifying factors
- As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening (post accepted offer) and have acceptable background check results.
- If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
Physical requirements
- This position requires the ability to maneuver around work sites, see, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and clients.
- Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; frequent opportunity to move about and to work outside the office environment for extended periods involving exposure to the elements with weather that will include extreme heat, cold, wind, rain or other inclement weather, walking over rough and uneven surfaces, and routine lifting of up to 35 pounds.
- If required, must properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times including but not limited to: hard hats, steel toed boots, eye protection, respiratory protection, and hearing protection.
- Must always maintain a constant state of mental alertness.
Working conditions
- Job is performed in a combination of office and outdoor site locations.
- The office setting includes exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse.
- Outdoor settings include walking, driving, and carrying supplies throughout all seasons with exposure to heat and cold conditions, and potentially wildlife.
- Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and loud noise.
