About the role

The Commercial Driver is responsible for the operations of a variety of large vehicles and equipment for the transport of Company cargo. Primary responsibilities include equipment operation, maintenance, Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance (including accurate logbooks), and scheduling of deliveries.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Excellence and Maintenance
    • Maintain a well-running equipment and trailer while in possession and after trips, including servicing as needed
    • Ensure equipment is properly loaded, weight distributed, secured, and protected for transportation
    • Lead a comprehensive and appropriate job briefing during operations shifts, maintenance shifts, and while conducting maintenance tasks
    • Adhere to and enforce Loram and general railroad operating practices and safety procedures
    • Drive and/or operate the vehicle to and from the jobsite in a safe and responsible manner
    • Identify problems and correct concerns following Loram Operating rules
  • Machine Operations and Technical Knowledge
    • Control the operation of the overhaul equipment without assistance in all situations
    • Assist in scheduled preventative and unscheduled maintenance to assure consistent product quality and machine reliability
  • Compliance
    • Perform DOT inspections per regulations
    • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date DOT logbook per regulations
    • Secure required special permits as needed
    • Obtain and maintain proper credentials to be qualified to operate the various machine platforms
  • Communications
    • Maintain communication with Manager and crews to ensure on-time deliveries

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years of demonstrated technical skills such as mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and machine operations
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • 1+ years of experience managing 24-hour operations
  • Demonstrated ability to learn best practices, continuously improve maintenance processes, and passion for teaching others
  • CDL-A license
  • DOT Health Card

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in truck driving, heavy equipment operations, and mechanic work

Preemployment Requirements

  • Current and prior relevant employment experience will be verified
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination and role-specific assessments, including:
    • DOT Physical Exam
    • Regulated (DOT) DS/BAT
    • Human Performance Evaluation (HPE)
    • Audiogram
  • Successful completion of an eVerifile/eRailSafe background check; ongoing eligibility subject to compliance with eRailSafe standards
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license; Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check conducted upon hire and annually thereafter
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test

Working Conditions

  • 100% or more travel including international, using any method of transportation
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to apply high levels of cognitive, analytical, retention, and reasoning skills
  • Excellent communication skills used within any social context
  • Physical abilities include: standing, sitting, walking, reaching, balancing, stooping, kneeling, hearing, tasting, smelling, seeing up close and at distances, color perception, peripheral vision, and depth perception
  • Tolerate variable and sometimes extreme physical conditions during visits or inspections of company equipment in a railroad environment

Pay

The pay range for this position is between $47,200 and $66,000. Certain positions may be eligible for an annual bonus and paid time off in addition to base compensation.
