Commercial Counsel - Procurement
About the role
The Commercial Counsel at xAI will support procurement efforts for software, hardware, infrastructure, and services. They will work closely with internal stakeholders to draft, review, and negotiate complex agreements, ensuring compliance and streamlining processes.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of procurement commercial deals, master service agreements, order forms, SOWs, POs, and NDAs.
- Partner closely with engineering, finance, accounting, and operations teams to align contracts with business needs.
- Create processes for efficient and scalable contracting.
- Pitch in for anything needed in the Legal department, even if it’s unfamiliar or not in your lane.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of legal experience—ideally through a combination of experience at innovative technology companies and/or excellent law firms (startup experience a plus).
- Experience in commercial contracting, with a focus on procurement in tech, software, or infrastructure sectors.
- Proven track record of negotiating complex deals for software, hardware, data, infrastructure, or AI-related technologies.
- Tech-savvy with an understanding or keen interest in datacenters and emerging technologies like AI.
- A strong sense of ownership, inquisitive and enthusiastic about technology, enjoy being continually challenged, and can demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
- Willing to go the extra mile to support the xAI mission.
Basics
- JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state.
Compensation and benefits
The base salary is $176,000-$228,000 USD. The total rewards package includes equity, comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short & long-term disability insurance, life insurance, and various other discounts and perks.
ITAR requirements
To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicants must be a U.S. citizen or national, a U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), a refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or an asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
