Scopely is seeking an experienced, business-minded Counsel, Commercial to join our legal team in Culver City, CA. This is an individual-contributor role for a lawyer who thrives in fast-moving environments, exercises strong judgment, and approaches legal work as a strategic business partner, building trusted, lasting relationships across the business.
Responsibilities
- Serve as lead attorney on a broad range of commercial matters across Scopely's business teams and games: drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements including AI/automation/SaaS and software licensing, DPAs, marketing/influencer/sponsorship deals, vendor and procurement contracts, NDAs, and adtech/UA IO agreements.
- Be the attorney business teams want to call as a trusted ally, engage early, understand business goals, and be responsive, approachable, and easy to work with.
- Clearly communicate legal and reputational risk and tradeoffs so stakeholders can make confident, informed decisions.
- Build and refine playbooks, templates, and checklists that enable legal support to be faster and more consistent for the people who rely on it.
- Use AI tools and automation to speed up contract review, redlining, and issue-spotting.
- Partner with Legal Operations to test and refine tools that scale high-touch legal support as the org grows.
- Work closely with Privacy, Product, Employment, and Corporate legal teams to keep risk, strategy, and execution aligned.
- Coordinate with outside counsel as needed, while staying personally accountable for outcomes and the business partner experience end-to-end.
Requirements
- 4-6+ years of legal experience in complex commercial transactions; JD and active California bar license.
- Experience with technology transactions and DPAs; gaming, digital media, adtech, or live-events agreements a plus.
- A track record of building strong relationships with business stakeholders and delivering responsive, personalized legal support.
- Ability to operate independently, owning matters end-to-end with minimal oversight.
- Strong commercial judgment and the ability to translate legal concepts into clear, practical guidance.
- Interest in Legal AI; Hands-on experience with AI tools in day-to-day workflows a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to advise and influence senior stakeholders.
- Comfort working across time zones and cultures in a global organization.
