Location: Des Moines, IA – hybrid (in-office each week, must be able to drive onsite weekly).

About the role

This elevated, more complex project position offers the chance to work on a diverse and complex portfolio of commercial construction projects. The role involves managing subcontractors, detailed cost estimation, and coordinating with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and vendors. A mix of technical construction knowledge, project coordination experience, and strong external relationship-building skills is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Use commercial construction tools such as SmartSheets and MS Project to manage costs and budgets.
  • Manage and support commercial construction and development projects from kickoff through completion, including engineering and build processes.
  • Review and own all construction project documentation, including project plans, specifications, contracts, and other relevant construction documents.
  • Monitor contracts, schedules, budgets, site progress, and overall project performance.
  • Conduct site visits to inspect quality and compliance with safety standards.
  • Assist with bidding, contractor selection, procurement, and preconstruction planning.
  • Identify project risks and communicate progress to stakeholders efficiently.
  • Manage project details in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (required).
  • PE license is a plus.
  • 4–10 years of experience in construction, project engineering, or project management, with a focus on commercial projects.
  • Experience from preconstruction design initiation through project closeout.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, safety, vendors, materials, and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret commercial blueprints, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Highly organized, communicative, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods, cost controls, building materials, vendor coordination, safety practices, and regulatory standards.

Pay

Up to $135,000 base salary plus bonus (DOE).
