Commercial Attorney Interim
About the role
Our client is a fast-growing, publicly traded energy company based in Texas. It is a market leader in supplying resources to oil and gas producers in one of the most active energy regions in the U.S. The company is known for innovation: it has made large investments in technology and infrastructure that make its operations safer, more efficient and more sustainable. It is now expanding into distributed power generation, supplying on-site power to energy, industrial and technology customers. The talented legal team of this company is looking for a long-term temporary attorney to support its in-house legal team and handle a high volume of commercial agreements. You'll work mainly on the vendor and supplier side, along with other commercial contracts. You'll also use modern legal technology every day, including AI-driven playbooks, Spellbook and Claude. This role is a valued member of a collaborative, forward-thinking legal team, not a back-office review job.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, redline and negotiate a high volume of commercial agreements, mainly vendor, supplier and procurement contracts (MSAs, services agreements, NDAs, SOWs, amendments and similar documents)
- Apply company playbooks and AI-assisted review tools (Spellbook, Claude) to deliver fast, consistent, high-quality turnarounds
- Spot and escalate non-standard terms and business risks to the legal team
- Work with business stakeholders across operations, procurement and finance to keep deals moving
- Help refine playbooks, templates and AI workflows as volume and needs change
Qualifications
- J.D. and active bar license in good standing
- 3+ years of commercial contracting experience, in-house or at a law firm
- Strong vendor/procurement contract experience; energy, oilfield services or industrial experience is a plus
- Comfortable using AI-powered legal tools, or eager to learn them. Experience with Spellbook, Claude or similar platforms is a strong plus
- Able to manage high volume with accuracy, sound judgment and a practical, business-minded approach
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative style
