About the role
The Combustion Design Engineer will support the mechanical design and modification of gas turbine combustion components. Responsibilities span mechanical design, modeling, drawing definition, PLM BOM creation, engineering changes, supplier coordination, manufacturing support, and assembly support.
Responsibilities
- Own mechanical component modifications from design through manufacturing and assembly.
- Review sourcing and supplier quotes for proposed cost-reduction modifications.
- Develop cost Pareto models using aPriori or similar tools.
- Perform mechanical design using Siemens NX Mechanical Modeling and Routing.
- Create and maintain models, drawings, and PMI/Product Manufacturing Information.
- Apply drafting standards, GD&T, and fundamental tolerance stack-up principles.
- Create PLM BOMs and engineering change instructions.
- Support hardware procurement, manufacturing, and assembly activities.
- Collaborate with drafting, sourcing, manufacturing, aero engineering, heat transfer, materials, repair engineering, and value engineering teams.
- Interface directly with suppliers to review cost-reduction ideas, cost impacts, and manufacturability limitations.
- Provide manufacturing/shop support and assist with dispositioning non-conformances.
- Support process and supplier qualifications and review SDRs.
- Follow modified parts through final assembly and fleet launch.
- Perform engineering analysis using Ansys Classic as required.
Required Qualifications / Skills
- Experience with Siemens NX, specifically Mechanical Modeling and Routing modules.
- Experience with PMI/Product Manufacturing Information and mechanical drafting.
- Experience with PLM systems, including PLM BOMs and engineering changes.
- Strong knowledge of drafting standards, GD&T, and fundamental tolerance stack-ups.
- Experience with Ansys Classic.
- Mechanical design experience involving component or hardware modifications.
- Experience creating engineering models, drawings, and manufacturing definitions.
- Strong understanding of manufacturability and mechanical component design.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with the design, analysis, and manufacturing of gas turbine combustion components such as fuel nozzles, endcovers, casings, caps, liners, transition pieces, flow sleeves, TP aft frames, and crossfire tubes.
- Familiarity with Client’s design practices.
- Familiarity with Client’s lifing methods and tools.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, assembly, or repair of gas turbine components.
