GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS
Perform entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various offices throughout the City. Work is performed under direct supervision.
This internship is with the Parks and Recreation Department located at Kelly Recreation Complex, 404 Imperial Blvd. in Lakeland, FL. Interns will work a maximum of 30 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Aid in daily operations within Kelly Recreation Complex
- Aid in executing recreational sports leagues including softball, flag football, and kickball
- Set up and tear down recreation activities
- Report hazardous conditions and administer first aid when necessary
- Instruct individuals and groups in recreational activities; maintain discipline in recreational areas
- Participate in staff meetings; assist in planning special events; provide information about programs to parents and other citizens
- Work flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform related work as required
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE)
- Enrollment in or recent graduation from a degree seeking program in an accredited college or university
- A Resumé is required for consideration for this position
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Basic understanding of sports (softball/baseball, flag football, kickball, basketball)
- Ability to perform basic data entry
- Basic Computer Skills
- Must be willing to spend time outside
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with supervisor, co-workers, other City employees and the general public
- Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS
- Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, routine keyboard operations
- The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards
- The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking
