College Assistant (Hourly) - Anticipated Vacancies
GENERAL DUTIES
Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration.
All personnel perform related work. This specification describes typical assignments; related duties may be assigned as needed.
Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year.
- Typing letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials.
- Answering and attending to telephone calls.
- Maintaining records.
- Operating office machines (such as copier).
- Sorting and distributing mail.
- Issuing keys and identity cards.
- Acting as messenger.
- Performing related tasks as required.
- Assisting in statistical or research activities.
- Collecting and compiling data.
- Code data for computer entry.
- Performing data entry.
- Running computer reports.
- Performing clerical library work (such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals).
- Aiding in instructional programs (including tutoring and assisting students in areas such as reading and mathematics).
- Aiding in speech and hearing therapy.
- Providing musical accompaniment.
- Distributing and collecting physical education equipment.
- Entering and maintaining departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules.
- Operating computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks.

New York City College of Technology (City Tech) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a comprehensive college in downtown Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degree in technology and health related degree programs, other career-oriented degrees and liberal arts transfer degrees in its Schools of Arts and Sciences, Technology and Design, and Professional Studies.
To maintain a current and expansive pool of part-time clerical support staff, City Tech is seeking College Assistants to supplement our committed workforce across various campus departments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to take initiative when necessary.
- Willingness to learn.
Compensation
$19.12 - $29.32 per hour
