Envision Education currently operates four small schools in San Francisco, Oakland, and Hayward, as well as a national educational consulting firm called Envision Learning Partners. About You

You are equity-focused, unapologetic in your belief that all children can achieve, and committed to anti-racist and pro-Black practices as essential to changing the status quo. You are collaborative, making decisions in partnership with others while keeping students’ best interests at the center. You hold high expectations for the entire school community and actively examine your own biases in pursuit of equity.

Responsibilities

• Engage in weekly mentorship and professional development with site administration to:
  • Support and guide all 12th-grade students through each step of the college and financial aid application process.
  • Provide a career-readiness learning curriculum for advisories in all grade levels.
  • Learn about special opportunities for low-income students in the college search and application process (e.g., fee waivers, fly-in visits, university partner programs, and scholarships).
  • Build partnerships with college admissions and career placement services.
  • Plan and lead workshops for parents and stakeholders on key topics such as financial aid planning, types of institutions, and scholarships.
  • Engage in monthly self-reflection and professional goal-setting, including pursuing a Pupil Personnel Services Credential (PPSC) or equivalent to become a credentialed school counselor.
• College advising (with support from site administration):
  • Guide all 12th-grade students through the college and financial aid application process.
  • Advise seniors through the admissions cycle, including creating a college list, writing and revising personal statements, financial aid advising, and final matriculation decisions.
  • Write and manage the collection of Letters of Recommendation for all seniors, including providing professional development for teachers on the process.
• Student academic case management:
  • Implement individual support efforts for students outside the sphere of academic success.
  • Collaborate with administration to monitor, collect, and analyze data on case management and support efforts, including progress report calls and intervention plans.
• College/university relationship development (with support from site administration):
  • Contact and meet with campus admissions representatives to build relationships and market Envision’s college applicants, including organizing annual college trips.
  • Become familiar with the academic and social environments of colleges seniors are considering to recommend suitable matches.
  • Develop and maintain a robust network of college admission professionals through regular communication and high school visits from colleges that support first-generation, low-income students.
  • Ensure a robust group of colleges visit the Envision campus and meet with students.
• Note: As a non-credentialed employee, the Advisor is not permitted to engage in counseling activities such as individual counseling, Educationally Related Mental Health Services (ERMHS), group counseling, Behavior Intervention Services, or Parent Counseling and Social Work Services.

Requirements

• Commitment to the mission of Envision Education and anti-racist, pro-Black ideologies in the workplace.
• A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
• 1+ years of experience providing academic, career, and/or college mentorship/advising services to high school students.
• Demonstrated success working with parents and families, especially Black, African American, Latino/a/x, and immigrant families.
• Receptiveness to feedback and a desire to continuously improve.
• Long-term certification expectation: Candidates must either be enrolled in and progressing toward a PPS Certificate or agree to earn their PPS (Pupil Personnel Services) credential within 5 years.
• Once hired, continuous current California residency is required.
• Bilingual Spanish speakers preferred.

Location

This is an onsite position.

Pay

Competitive hourly pay range: $38–$48/hour. The final offer will be determined based on skills, education, experience, and internal equity. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical to allow for future salary growth.

Schedule

This is an 11-month, non-exempt, full-time position (40 hours per week).
